In-clinic vs online

How being seen in person actually differs.

Most weight management services sold in the UK today are remote. This is a comparison of service models — what each type of provider typically does, and what it typically cannot do.

The bottom line. A remote service cannot weigh you, take your blood pressure, examine you, or notice that something has changed since it last saw you. Ready Health is a physical clinic in Standish — every assessment and every review happens face to face with a registered clinician, and you pay only for the appointments you actually have.

This table compares typical service models rather than any named provider. Individual services, inclusions and prices vary and change over time, so please check each provider's own published information. NHS availability, referral criteria and waiting times vary by area. Why in-person matters

An app cannot examine you. A clinician in the room can.

Weight is a clinical issue, not a number typed into a form. Being in a room with a clinician changes what can be measured, what gets picked up, and what happens next.

Measured, not assumed. Your height, weight, BMI, waist and blood pressure are taken by a clinician at the clinic. Remote services rely on the figures you supply yourself, which is one of the most common reasons an unsuitable treatment gets started.

A proper safety net. Thyroid disease, undiagnosed type 2 diabetes, medication interactions, disordered eating and low mood can all sit behind a change in weight. In clinic these can be explored properly, investigated with blood tests taken on site where indicated, and acted on — rather than filtered out by a questionnaire.

Follow-up that means something. A review with a clinician who saw you six weeks ago is a different conversation. Plateaus, questions and changes to your plan are handled by someone who knows your history, in person, with your weight and blood pressure re-checked on the day.

Local, and open to you. If something worries you between appointments you can telephone the clinic or come in. You are not raising a support ticket.

Joined up with the rest of your care. With your consent we write to your GP, and we can arrange blood tests, blood pressure monitoring, dietary advice and our counselling and CBT team from the same building.

Safety and suitability

What we will, and will not, do.

Being clear about this matters more than a marketing promise.

Every patient receives an individual face-to-face assessment. Recommendations are based on clinical need and suitability, and no particular treatment or outcome is guaranteed.

Who the service is for

Adults aged 18 and over with a BMI of 30 or above, or from 27 where there is a weight-related health condition such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes. Suitability is always assessed individually.

⚠️

Who it may not suit

The service is not right for everyone — for example in pregnancy or while breastfeeding, or where another condition needs investigating or treating first. Your clinician will go through this with you.

📉

Realistic expectations

Results differ from person to person and no clinic can promise a particular outcome. Lasting progress comes from changes to diet, activity and habits that you can maintain, with support from your clinician.
