The ADHD check — at a glance
A screening tool only · not a diagnosis
Not sure if you have ADHD?
If you have ever wondered “how do I know if I have ADHD?”, this free ADHD check is a good place to start. It uses the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS-v1.1) Symptom Checker, developed with the World Health Organisation. Part A is the 6-question screener; Part B adds 12 optional questions for more detail. Answer about how you’ve felt over the last 6 months and we’ll show your result instantly. Ready Health will get a copy of your results, which they will store safely on file.
The Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS-v1.1) Symptom Checklist is a recognised screening tool only. A positive screen does not confirm ADHD, and a negative one does not rule it out — only a full clinical assessment can give you an answer. Developed in conjunction with the World Health Organisation.
Clinically reviewed by Dr Sharath Bandaru, GP & Clinical Director, Ready Health. Last reviewed: May 2026.
What the ADHD check tells you — and what it doesn’t
The ASRS-v1.1 is a screening tool that flags whether your experiences are consistent with ADHD. It is a useful first step, but it cannot diagnose ADHD. Here’s how to read your result.
Part A — the screener
Six questions shown by research to be the most predictive of ADHD in adults. Four or more “shaded” answers means your symptoms are highly consistent with ADHD and worth investigating further.
Part B — symptom detail
Twelve optional questions covering inattention, restlessness and impulsivity. They don’t change your screen result, but they help our clinicians understand severity and day-to-day impact.
A screen, not a diagnosis
A positive screen doesn’t confirm ADHD, and a negative one doesn’t rule it out. Only a full clinical assessment with a specialist clinician can give you a definitive answer.
Your next step
If your result suggests further investigation — or if these traits affect your daily life — you can book a full private ADHD assessment with no NHS-style waiting list.
What does ADHD look like?
ADHD affects attention, activity levels and impulse control, and it shows up differently from person to person. Recognising yourself or your child in these patterns — especially when they’ve been present for a long time and affect daily life — is often what prompts people to take a screening test.
Common signs of ADHD in adults
- Difficulty concentrating, or losing focus on tasks that feel boring or repetitive
- Struggling with organisation, planning and time management
- Forgetfulness — missing appointments, deadlines or everyday tasks
- Restlessness, fidgeting or feeling “driven by a motor”
- Acting on impulse, interrupting others or finding it hard to wait
- Difficulty regulating emotions, or feeling easily overwhelmed
- Starting many things but struggling to finish them
Common signs of ADHD in children
- Easily distracted and finding it hard to stay on task at school or home
- Difficulty following instructions or finishing homework
- Fidgeting, climbing or being unable to stay seated when expected
- Talking excessively or blurting out answers
- Difficulty waiting their turn or playing quietly
- Losing things and appearing forgetful in daily activities
- Acting without thinking about the consequences
These are common indicators, not a checklist for diagnosis. Many people experience some of these without having ADHD. A recognised screening test is a useful next step, and a full clinical assessment is the only way to confirm a diagnosis.
