Is This Test Right for You?
Unlike food allergies, intolerance symptoms are often delayed by hours or even days after eating the trigger food — making them notoriously difficult to identify without testing.
Persistent abdominal bloating after meals, excess gas or stomach distension
Poor concentration, mental fatigue and sluggish thinking after eating
Unexplained tiredness or energy crashes — especially after meals
Eczema, acne, rashes or unexplained skin flare-ups with no clear cause
Cramps, loose stools, constipation or alternating bowel habits
Recurring headaches or migraines that may be diet-triggered
Unexplained joint ache or muscle stiffness without obvious cause
Research increasingly links gut health and food reactions to mood disturbances

Common Questions
A food allergy is an immediate immune response involving IgE antibodies — it can cause rapid, sometimes severe reactions like hives, swelling and anaphylaxis, usually within minutes of eating the trigger food. A food intolerance is a different mechanism, typically involving IgG4 antibodies, that causes delayed reactions — often hours or even days later. Symptoms are usually less dramatic but chronic and disruptive: bloating, fatigue, brain fog, skin problems and IBS-type symptoms. This test measures IgG4 antibodies and is designed to identify food intolerances, not allergies.
The kit includes a small sterile lancet — a spring-loaded pin — that pricks the tip of your finger with minimal discomfort. You collect 2–3 drops of blood in the provided collection tube, seal it in the sample return pouch and post it back using the included freepost envelope. Full step-by-step illustrated instructions are included. Most people complete the process in under 5 minutes.
Once your blood sample arrives at the laboratory, results are typically ready within 7 days. Your results are then sent directly to your email address — presented in a clear, colour-coded format showing your reactivity level to each of the 200+ foods tested. Please allow additional time for postal delivery of your sample to the lab.
The test measures your blood's IgG4 antibody response to over 200 specific foods and drinks. IgG4 (Immunoglobulin G, subclass 4) is the antibody associated with delayed food sensitivity reactions. Elevated IgG4 levels to a specific food indicate that your immune system has been sensitised to that food and may be mounting a low-level inflammatory response each time you eat it. Results are presented as a traffic-light system: green (no reaction), amber (mild reaction) and red (elevated reaction).
The test is suitable for adults and children aged 2 years and over. We recommend consulting your GP before ordering for young children under 5. The test is not suitable for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you are taking immunosuppressant medication, the results may be less reliable — please speak to your doctor first.
No. The test kit and freepost return envelope are only available within the United Kingdom. The prepaid return label is only valid for UK postage. We are unable to send kits to or process samples from outside the UK at this time.
Your results will clearly identify which foods triggered an IgG4 reaction and at what level. The recommended approach is an elimination diet — removing the highest-reacting foods for 4–6 weeks, then reintroducing them one at a time to observe how your body responds. We recommend sharing your results with your GP, a registered dietitian, or a nutritional therapist for personalised guidance on next steps.
Not necessarily. A positive result means your body has produced IgG4 antibodies to that food, which may be contributing to your symptoms. Many people find that after eliminating a reactive food for 6–12 weeks, they can reintroduce it in smaller quantities without symptoms returning. The goal is to reduce overall immune burden, not to permanently restrict your diet.
IgG4 food testing remains an area of active research and debate within mainstream medicine. While many individuals report significant symptom improvement following elimination diets guided by IgG4 test results, it is not currently included in NHS standard diagnostic pathways for food intolerance. The test is best understood as a guided elimination tool rather than a definitive diagnostic test. We recommend using your results in conjunction with professional dietary advice.
The NHS does not routinely offer IgG4 food intolerance testing. NHS testing focuses primarily on IgE allergy testing (for immediate allergic reactions) and specific conditions such as coeliac disease. Our at-home test provides a broad IgG4 screen across 200+ foods that is not available through standard NHS pathways, giving you more comprehensive information to guide dietary decisions.
