Not every country requires a health check, and regulations will depend on how long you plan on staying for. However, making sure you have the right paperwork certifying a clean bill of health can help the application process a lot smoother.

Visa Medical Certificates

Once you’ve planned your trip, you need to start gathering documents to apply for the right visa. You should receive a list telling you which (if any) medical certificates you need to submit.

These will usually be focused on contagious infections like tuberculosis, hepatitis or HIV. However, some countries may have other requirements, and your vaccination status may also be requested depending on the area you’re visiting.

Health checks for travel visas

During a visa health check, you can expect to have blood taken to check for any specified diseases, as well as a general physical exam to make sure you’re physically well. This could include a height and weight check as well as your vital signs like pulse, blood pressure, and glucose levels, but generally most appointments don’t take longer than 20 minutes.
