Having a smear test is the best way to detect changes early and should be done every 3 or 5 years depending ojn how old you are.
If you’re 25-49, you’ll receive a letter from the NHS reminding you to have a HPV smear every 3 years. Between 50 and 65, you should get one every 5 years.
Try not to miss any screenings – but if you do find you’ve left it a while, you can always book a private smear test with us to check everything’s still right.

Cervical smear Faq's
During a cervical HPV test, you’ll be asked to undress your lower half and lie on a bed with your knees apart and feet together. You’ll be given a disposable towel to shield yourself for dignity.
Your practitioner will use a plastic speculum to gently widen your vagina and see the cervix more clearly. This can sometimes feel cold, but if you want to stop or pause at any point, please tell your clinician.
Next, they’ll use a thin, soft brush to sweep cells from your cervix to send off as a sample. Some people find this to be slightly uncomfortable, but you’re more than welcome to bring headphones or listen to something on your phone if you find it helps to distract you.
The whole process usually takes less than 20 minutes, and you’ll be left in private to get dressed after you’ve had your smear.
