Yellow Fever Vaccine – What You Need to Know

Travel Safely With the Right Information From Ready Health Clinic, Standish

Planning a trip abroad? If you're heading to certain parts of Africa or South America, you may need a Yellow Fever vaccine before you travel. While we do not offer the Yellow Fever vaccination at Ready Health Clinic in Standish, we’re here to guide you with trusted advice and help you find a licensed Yellow Fever vaccination centre nearby.

What Is Yellow Fever?

Yellow Fever is a serious viral infection spread by mosquitoes. It’s found in parts of Sub-Saharan Africa, South America, Central America, and Trinidad in the Caribbean. The virus can cause high fever, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), organ failure, and in severe cases, death.

Thankfully, there’s a safe and effective vaccine that offers lifelong protection for most people.

Who Needs the Yellow Fever Vaccine?

You may need the Yellow Fever vaccine if you’re:

  • Travelling to a country where Yellow Fever is common

  • Travelling through a country with risk of Yellow Fever transmission

  • Entering a country that requires proof of Yellow Fever vaccination (a Yellow Fever certificate) as a condition of entry

Countries That Often Require Yellow Fever Vaccination

Here are some destinations where the Yellow Fever vaccine may be required or recommended:

Africa:

  • Ghana

  • Nigeria

  • Kenya

Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate (ICVP)

Once vaccinated, you’ll receive a Yellow Fever International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP). It becomes valid 10 days after the injection and lasts a lifetime in most cases. Some countries will not allow entry without this certificate if you're arriving from a Yellow Fever risk zone.
