Relationship counselling FAQs

What is relationship counselling?

Relationship counselling, also called couples therapy or marriage counselling, is a talking therapy that gives you and your partner a safe, neutral space to understand what is happening between you, improve how you communicate, and work through difficulties together.

How much does relationship counselling cost at Ready Health?

Sessions are £50 for a full one hour, paid as you go. There is no membership and no minimum number of sessions — you book only what feels right for you.

Do both partners need to attend?

Not necessarily. Many couples come together, but you are also welcome to attend on your own to work on the relationship. Whatever suits your situation is fine.

Do I need a referral to see a relationship counsellor?

No. You can refer yourself and book directly online or by phone — you do not need a GP letter or any referral, and there is no waiting list.

Where is your relationship counselling clinic, and which areas do you cover?

Our clinic is at 22 High Street, Standish, Wigan WN6 0HL. We welcome couples and individuals from across Wigan, Chorley and the surrounding areas, including Standish, Shevington, Coppull, Adlington, Euxton and Leyland.

What happens in a relationship counselling session?

Your session is an unhurried hour in a calm, private space. Lisa stays neutral, gives both partners room to speak, and helps you understand each other and the patterns that get in the way, so you can find a kinder way forward.

How many sessions will we need?

There is no set number. Some couples notice a difference after a few sessions, while others value ongoing support over a longer period. You stay in control of how often you come and when you feel ready to finish.

Can relationship counselling help if we're considering separating?

Yes. Counselling isn't only about staying together. It can give you a calm, supported space to think things through honestly and, if you do decide to part, to do so more amicably — especially where children are involved.

Take the first step, together or on your own

Reaching out is often the hardest part. Whenever you feel ready, Lisa is here to help you talk, listen and move forward — in a warm, private space close to home.
