Lisa Scott

BACP Registered Counsellor & ADHD Coach

Background

Compassionate, flexible and individualised support for ages 16+

Lisa Scott is a Level 5 qualified counsellor and BACP-registered practitioner, committed to providing a safe, supportive and non-judgemental environment in which clients can explore whatever they may be experiencing.

Lisa has worked in private practice for the past two years, with young people and adults aged 16 and over. She does not provide counselling to children under the age of 16.

Rather than specialising in one particular area, Lisa takes a varied and individualised approach to counselling. She believes that every client is different, and that therapy should be shaped around the individual, their experiences and what they need from counselling at that particular point in their life.

A Flexible Approach to Counselling

Lisa works with clients experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including:

  • Anxiety and stress
  • Depression and low mood
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Relationship and marriage difficulties
  • Communication difficulties
  • Self-esteem and confidence
  • Emotional regulation
  • Life changes and transitions
  • Overwhelm and difficulties coping
  • ADHD-related challenges
  • Personal and emotional difficulties

Lisa is comfortable working across a broad range of presenting issues, and believes that not every client fits neatly into one category. Her role is not to put a label on someone's experience, but to understand what is happening for that individual and to work collaboratively to find an approach that is appropriate and helpful for them.

Therapeutic Approaches

Lisa uses a combination of therapeutic approaches, adapting her work according to the needs and preferences of each client.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT can help clients understand the relationship between their thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Lisa may use CBT techniques to help clients identify unhelpful patterns of thinking, understand how these patterns can influence emotions and behaviour, and develop practical strategies to manage difficulties more effectively.

Person-Centred Counselling

Person-centred counselling places the client at the centre of the therapeutic process. Lisa provides a space where clients can speak openly and honestly without judgement, while being supported to explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences at their own pace.

Rather than telling a client what they should do, Lisa works alongside them to help develop greater self-awareness, understanding and confidence in making their own choices.

ADHD Coaching

Alongside counselling, Lisa also provides ADHD coaching for individuals who are experiencing difficulties with the practical and emotional impact of ADHD.

ADHD coaching focuses on practical strategies that can make everyday life more manageable. This may include support with:

  • Organisation and planning
  • Time management and time blindness
  • Procrastination
  • Motivation
  • Emotional regulation
  • Managing overwhelm
  • Establishing routines
  • Prioritising tasks
  • Managing transitions
  • Building confidence
  • Understanding individual ADHD patterns

The aim is to develop realistic strategies that work for the individual, rather than expecting them to fit into systems that may not work for them.

Lisa takes a compassionate approach to ADHD coaching, and recognises that difficulties with organisation, motivation, emotional regulation or time management are not simply about someone “not trying hard enough”. Understanding how ADHD affects an individual can be an important first step towards finding strategies that work.

Working With You as an Individual

Lisa believes that counselling should be personal, collaborative and flexible.

Whether someone comes to counselling because they are experiencing anxiety or depression, dealing with bereavement, struggling within a relationship, feeling overwhelmed, navigating a major life change, or simply feeling that they are no longer coping as they would like to, Lisa provides a space to explore what is happening.

There is no expectation that clients arrive knowing exactly what they need — part of the counselling process can be working that out together. The focus is on the individual, not simply the problem they have brought to counselling.

Lisa's aim is to provide the right support for each client, using different therapeutic approaches and practical strategies where appropriate, while working at a pace that feels comfortable for them.
